"Su Shanghai·Public Art and Community Creation Project" was initiated by Liu Haisu Art Museum. It takes Liu Haisu's "su" and the "plastic" of shaping, and is committed to implanting art in the streets and lanes of Shanghai, through spatial transformation and art Creativity and community interaction are organically integrated to stimulate architectural vitality, enhance community quality, improve urban functions, and build a better life.
The first case of the construction plan is the Su Shanghai Community Art Museum in Lane 1088, Yuyuan Road, which was jointly built by Liu Haisu Art Museum, CREATER and architect Zhang Haiao, and supported by Jindi East China. The community art gallery is not a cold art exhibition space, but hopes to present, narrate, and convey a warmer community history, urban spirit and humanistic care through art and interaction.
Yuyuan Road is one of the 64 roads in Shanghai that will never be widened. It is the former residence of literati in a hundred years of lanes. They are scattered on this historically preserved block with their unique features. Here, we met the protagonist of this renovation, a building located in Hongye Garden District. The building was formerly the teaching building of Shanghai Medical Workers University. Due to the relocation of the school site, it is now in a state of vacancy.
