Hangzhou Mu Shou Xixi Hotel

Xixi is based on the wetland landscape. Compared with the West Lake, the vegetation is very short-most of them are shrubs and reeds, and the trees are also low-growing species; the scenery is not open-people's viewpoint is blocked by plants, and only certain narrow water areas will be guided; if you say West Lake is the landscape guided by the horizon, and Xixi is the landscape framed; the ratio of houses to trees is not common, especially when the house has three or four floors—people usually don’t build houses in wetlands—when the skyline is a building. When it is not a tree canopy, people's perception of the environment is different: you are no longer enveloped and surrounded by infinite nature, and every head up is a hard space that is impenetrable and does not help imagination.

Our site is located in an area occupied by several groups of abandoned old houses (three or four storeys high and will be transformed into hotel rooms) in Xixi. The advantage of the site is that before entering the topic, there is a longer narrative line-the architect used it to make a more comfortable layout of the lobby, reception, restaurant, etc., so that the high rooms at the back do not jump in front of people suddenly; the landscape uses it Two levels of entrances were made-after entering the common turning-like openings in the park, one hundred meters in there is a managed entrance where cars drive in, and then there is an entrance where people and cars diverge. Although the long and ancient narrative method is classical, it does not rush into the ground.

The big trees on the site are not native, because the earth is not in harmony (or congenital deficiency) and does not grow well. Based on the principle of in-situ conservation, we made the best use of the materials. According to their location and elevation, low walls and gravel parking lots were made; the pools around the lobby and corridors can be used as a car show when the water is drained, and the water is full to provide a background for the wedding. . Black gravel is selected at the bottom of the pool to give the large water surface a faint texture. A stone in the water is looming, and the inner circle is the same as the rest of the area. It wants to express the meaning of "vernal equinox", the so-called "sun, moon, yin and sun balance the sky, and the mysterious bird will not hesitate to peach blossoms and coldness." A lonely persimmon tree planted a little further away on the screen is inscribed "Mushou". The foggy screen separates the interior and exterior, dry and wet spaces, gradually transitioning the spatial sequence to the surrounding countryside.

Out of this sequence, it is a native pond. The water surface is often full of duckweed and green algae. In fact, the so-called wetland in Xixi is not a native wetland as defined by Westerners, but the remains of agricultural landscapes such as abandoned fish ponds and rice fields. This is something later. The dam at the end of the pond advances the next pond to one level. There is a huge old peach blossom dotted around the dam entrance, which is extremely splendid in spring. We therefore mistakenly understood the soil and water here, and tried to add some peach blossoms on both sides of the dam, but failed. Now that weeds are overgrown, it also seems to be a landscape.

The roads on both sides of the pond can lead to the guest room area. On the way of the main road, you can overlook the open pond on the west side. A stone bench meaning "summer solstice" is divided by a metal wire representing the Tropic of Cancer. If scientifically speaking, the Tropic of Cancer on the summer solstice day is directly exposed to the sun, and "the day is long, but the shadow of the sun is short", I hope this stone can express its meaning; another path leading to the guest room will pass the sculpture of "rain water" , The bamboo-shaped water platform has variable slopes of different dimensions, and the water overflows when it is full. As said in the solar term song: "Wet in the south and cold in the north. The ancient Chinese solar terms reflect the wisdom of people during the farming period, and we use it to imply the background of the agricultural landscape in Xixi.

The "Winter Solstice" landscape is located between the two rooms. Our calculation is that if you stand at one end of the pool that day, you can enjoy the sunset in the direction of the arrow. I hope that the afterglow of the setting sun can pass through the bushes not far away and become an extension of the space that arouses people's fantasy.

There are still many functional spaces in Mu Shou Xixi that are limited by space, such as the wooden platform for banquets outside the meeting room, the swimming pool and wedding lawn on the peninsula, the outdoor cafes sandwiched between the guest rooms, the small courtyard of the ground floor rooms... ...The so-called daylight and night, Xia Jiu is covered by snow, each is a landscape. We also believe that over time, the forces of nature will roughen the artificial edges and corners, and the aesthetics of modern society will eventually be intertwined and harmonious with the barbarity of the farming period.
